The Global Martial Arts Kids Academy is a private, kids-only academy located in Scurry, Texas. The academy uniquely focuses on creating well-rounded black belt leaders, at home, school, church, and in the community. Our unique curriculum integrates the best elements of the martial arts, while integrating the importance of character development and positive achievement. Our martial arts training incorporates Krav Maga (an Israeli Self Defense system), Kickboxing (simplistic stand-up fighting skills), and Shotokan Karate (a traditional style that builds focus and control).

Our academy is located on a beautiful and tranquil prairie in Scurry, Texas. We are conveniently located near Scurry, Kaufman, Crandall, Kemp, and a short, pleasant drive from other communities. We have a standalone building, purpose built for teaching martial arts. The facility has central AC, a large training mat, professional equipment, a viewing area, a kids room, and a bathroom.

Michael Hodge is the black belt head instructor of the GMAU Kids Academy. He has dedicated his life to teaching martial arts and working with children. He began his own training at Kaufman Karate, at the age of 7. His father, Jon Hodge, opened up a family martial arts school in Crandall, where he began teaching while in high school. He then opened his own martial arts school in Seagoville, Texas, which served 150-200 students, specializing in children’s programs. After this, he created¬†BookLingual, by authoring bilingual children’s books that teach children a new language through reading. He has visited more than 100 elementary schools in the state of Texas by way of martial arts presentations or author visits. He is also the founder of the Global Martial Arts University, the world-leader online martial arts school, with students in over 40 countries. Michael holds a 3rd dan black belt in Shotokan Karate, and has advanced training in Krav Maga, Kickboxing, and several weapons disciplines.

He is happily married, and the father of three. He decided to open a kids-only academy in his hometown of Scurry to create the next generation of leaders, through the activity that has been a catalyst for his own growth, martial arts. Michael is also the director of “The Abundance Projects” a positive good organization gifting funds and resources to people and projects in need.

At the Kids Academy, we don’t just want to talk about community service, leadership, and stewardship; we want to lead by example. A portion of the proceeds from the academy, and the entire Global Martial Arts University, goes to help people and projects in need. The students of the academy will also have special actionable tasks, with the goal of uplifting the community through intelligent, win-win solutions for the community. By learning to give back, and create a world that works for everyone, our students will be well on their to moving mountains and becoming waves for change throughout the world.
